Our Top 4 Favorite Mods for the Bambu A1 Mini 3D Printer

Our Top 4 Favorite Mods for the Bambu A1 Mini 3D Printer (As of December 2024)

The Bambu A1 Mini is a fantastic 3D printer that offers excellent print quality and ease of use when it comes to polymer clay cutters and tools, but like many 3D printers, it can benefit from a few modifications to make it even better.

I have gathered my top 4 favorite mods that have increased the functionality of this cute printer. I love being able to print them in my preferred colors and customizing them. These four mods have become my absolute favorites.

Whether you’re looking to improve filament handling, cable management, or storage, these mods are sure to elevate your printing experience for your A1 Mini. Let’s dive in!

1. Top-Mounted Filament Spool Holder

One of the first upgrades I made was replacing the default filament spool holder with a top-mounted holder. This modification places the spool directly on top of the printer, reducing the strain on the filament path and ensuring smoother feeding during prints. **Bonus** It also keeps the cable and bowden tube from catching!

Why I Love It:

  • Saves space by keeping the filament compactly above the printer. (room for more printers hehe)
  • Reduces the risk of filament tangles or feeding issues.
  • Easier to swap out spools without fumbling around the side of the printer.

If you’ve struggled with filament feeding, this mod is a game-changer and my top favorite!

2. Bowden/Cable Clips

Managing all of the cables and tubes around the printer can quickly become a hassle, especially if you’re running longer/bigger print jobs. These small but mighty clips keep the bowden tube and cable in place, preventing accidental snags.

Why I Love It:

  • Keeps them neat and organized.
  • Protects cables from wear and tear caused by unnecessary movement and snags
  • Easy and quick to print and install
  • Cute in multiple colors

 Simple, yet effective!

3. Cable Drag Chain

For the cable on the side, I used a custom cable chain that adds a cute and clean touch while improving the safety and longevity of the cable.

Why I Love It:

  • Prevents cable sagging, catching, or interference during prints.
  • Adds a super cute look to your printer.
  • Ensures consistent cable movement, reducing the risk of damage over time.
  • Keeps it from affecting the printer next to it if you have multiple (room for more printers lol)

The cable chain was quite a bit more involved to install than the clips or top mount, but the result was absolutely worth the effort. It’s both functional and visually appealing! Don't forget to grab some m3 screws!

4. Drawer Organization System with Filament Waste (poop lol) Containment

Last but not least, I added this  A1 Mini All-in-One Organizer system that’s both practical, clever, and CUTE. Not only does it provide a designated space to store tools and spare parts, but it also keeps those pesky bits of filament waste (a.k.a. “filament poop”) neatly contained.

Why I Love It:

  • Keeps all my tools, nozzles, and accessories within easy reach.
  • Reduces clutter around the printer.
  • Provides a dedicated compartment to collect and dispose of filament waste easily.
  • Customizable with cute colors

This mod has been a lifesaver for keeping my workspace tidy and efficient. No more random filament poops to step on! Don't forget to grab some M3 screws!
